This is a journey to explore beautiful pristine caves deep in the core area of Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. Specifically, you will explore three consecutive caves: Pygmy Cave, Over Cave, and Tiger Cave, with countless magnificent stalagmites and stalactites.
These three caves were previously one long cave, but geological movements have caused the collapse of some cave areas and created giant sinkholes with primeval forests inside the cave.
Among them, Pygmy Cave is considered the fourth largest cave in the world, with a wide and 100m high cave dome. Meanwhile, the Kong Collapse is considered one of the deepest sinkholes on the planet, with a depth of more than 450m.

KONG COLLAPSE TOP ADVENTURE DETAILED ITINERARY
No other trek in Vietnam currently has abseil activities as part of the experience in cave exploration journeys. So, this will be an extremely interesting and challenging journey for you. To participate in this journey, you will have one day of training in cave exploration and safety skills by headquarters experts. The next four days will be real cave conquests.
Day 1: Arrival And Join Technical Training
Our private car driver will pick you up in Dong Hoi City or Phong Nha Town and take you to a homestay in Phong Nha village to prepare for Kong Collapse Top Adventure.
8:30 am: The tour guide will pick you up from the Homestays in Phong Nha to the headquarters to participate in the cave safety skills training class.
9:00 am: You will join the technical training at the headquarters training station.
12:00: We will have lunch and rest to continue the technical training session in the afternoon.
12:30 – 5:30 pm: Our team of cave safety experts will continue to guide you on single rope (SRT) technical operations. You will be instructed on how to use rope swing equipment safely and practice rope swing right at the skills training area of the headquarters.
6:00 pm: You will have dinner after training, and our Phong Nha private car driver will transfer you back to the homestay after dinner.
Day 2: Phong Nha – Road 20 Victory – Tiger Cave’s Lower Entrance
In The Morning
8:30 am: Our driver and tour guide come to pick you up and take you back to headquarters to check your jungle equipment and personal belongings. In addition, some safety and itinerary rules are also disseminated.
9:15 am: We will transfer you along 20 Victory Road for about 45 minutes by car and stop at km 24. This is the starting point of the walking journey to explore the mystery of the deep forest to conquer Kong Collapse.
10:00 am: Start hiking through Phong Nha – Ke Bang forest. The route at the starting point is quite easy, with the journey being mainly downhill. However, the slope is increasingly changing, and the road becomes more difficult. Hence, we will pass shallow streams along the way before stopping for lunch at the top of the Wind slope.
12:30: We will stop for lunch at the top of Wind slope to recharge the energy. It is also a good time to rest and take beautiful jungle photos in this area.
In The Afternoon
1:30 pm: Continue trekking to the lower entrance of Dai A cave, also known as Tiger cave.
2:00 pm: The slope increases as you move to the Lươn Slope area. Thus, this slope is very slippery with a deep slope. Therefore, forest trees and forest ropes will be great fulcrums to help you conquer the Lươn slope.
4:00 pm: After arriving at the Tiger Cave’s lower entrance, we swim into the cave.
4:00 – 4:30 pm: We will swim at the lower passage of the Tiger cave.
5:00 – 6:00 pm: Then, we prepare the campsite at Tiger Cave entrance.
6:00 – 9:30 pm: Dinner, relax, talk, and make friends with our local porter team.
9:30 pm: Go to bed to recover to prepare for tomorrow.
Day 3: Explore The Mysterious Of Kong Sinkhole
8:00 am: We have breakfast at the campsite.
9:00 am: Depart to walk up to the right side of Kong Collapse from the Tiger cave entrance. After that, we prepare for the challenge of the 100 meters-abseil into the sinkhole with three stages: 30m, 20m, and 50m.
10:00 am – 3:00 pm: We will abseil into the bottom of Kong Collapse and have a snack lunch here.
3:00 – 5:00 pm: Explore the back entrance of Tiger Cave and the extension passages of Kong Collapse.
5:00 – 6:30 pm: The time for you to relax, take photos, and swim in the underground river by the campsite at Kong Collapse’s bottom.
6:30 – 9:30 pm: Dinner time, admire and take photos of Kong Collapse with a beautiful night and relax.
9:30 pm: Bedtime to have enough energy for the 4th day – an amazing day completely underground to admire underground rivers, innumerable magnificent stalagmites, stalactites, etc.
Day 4: Kong Collapse – Tiger Cave – Over Cave – Pygmy Cave.
8:00 am: Wake up for breakfast at the campsite.
8:00 – 9:00 am: Taking photos of Kong Collapse. Afterward, we can abseil from the Turtle Rock in Kong Collapse (optional).
9:00 – 10:00 am: Next, we will explore Tiger Cave. Importantly, some sections will have underground rivers, so we must swim. Remarkably, the longest passage that we have to swim is about 300 meters.
10:00 am: Start exploring Hang Over Cave, the longest cave of the Tiger cave system. Hence, we explore this cave for 3.2 km in the darkness with the headlights on helmets. Surely, you will be conquered by a myriad of beautiful and majestic stalagmites and stalactites.
12:00: We have lunch inside the Hang Over Cave.
1:00 pm: Continue exploring Hang Over Cave by reaching its Massive Attack passage. This passage is the largest space of the Over Cave, with 125m wide and 80m high. Therefore, it is ideal for stunning photos.
2:00 pm: We trek through the jungle inside a sinkhole between Pygmy Cave and Hang Over Cave to start exploring the fourth largest cave in the world.
2:30 – 4:00 pm: You will follow a safety line along Pygmy Cave to reach the Dinosaur Spike passage. From this section, we will abseil 15 meters to get down to the bottom of Pygmy Cave.
4:00 – 6:00 pm: Keep exploring Pygmy Cave, taking appealing photos, and swimming in the enigmatic pool deep inside the Pygmy Cave.
6:00 – 9:00 pm: Dinner time and rest at the campsite after 1 day underground of exploration.
Day 5: Pygmy Cave – Road 20 Victory – Homestay In Phong Nha
8:00 am: Wake up for breakfast and then clean up camp to leave the cave system. After that, we start the half-day trek back to Road 20 Victory.
9:00 am: We trek out of the Pygmy Cave entrance to reach different valleys and mountains. This will be a long trek out of the jungle with rugged terrain.
10:30 am: After a long trek, we arrive at “Doc Co”, known as the grass slope. It is quite a slippery and steep hill. Hence, it will take away a lot of our energy. If it rains, you may have a chance to see some waterfalls on the way.
12:00: We will enjoy a snack lunch during this long and strenuous trek.
2:00 pm: Upon arrival at Road 20 Victory, we enjoy a cold drink. Then, our private car driver arrives and transfers you back to the headquarters.
3:00 pm: After returning to the headquarters, check in Homestay and clean up.
6:00 pm: A Gala dinner will be held to congratulate you on conquering our Kong Collapse Top Adventure tour. We finish the Kong Collapse Top Adventure 5 days and 4 nights here. What should you bring?
- First and foremost, you should bring two sets of long, quick-drying clothes to avoid itchy plants and insects in the jungle.
- Plus, don’t forget to bring three sets of pajamas to wear while staying overnight at the campsites.
- Besides, bring band-aids, swimwear and two pairs of socks.
- Furthermore, you should bring a medium-sized backpack for easy movement and less effort.
- Additionally, sandals or flip-flops are also necessary for camping.
- You should bring a dry bag to prevent your phone and camera from getting wet.
- We recommend that you bring your own hiking shoes to avoid the shoes at the headquarters not fitting you. Plus, you should not wear Goretex or waterproof boots, as these take a long time to dry.
- In addition, you should bring your hat, glasses, sunscreen, bug spray, toothpaste, and a toothbrush.
