The journey will begin with trekking to explore the Phong Nha – Ke Bang primeval forest. First, you will explore Elephant Cave, then trek through Ma Da Valley to get to Ma Da Lake with beautiful turquoise water. 

You will be delighted to jump from the cliff into the deep Ma Da Lake to bathe, swim, or soak in the cool water rising from the underground stream under Ma Da Lake’s bottom.

Then, you will enjoy lunch right next to Ma Da Lake (vegan options are also available). After lunch, you will continue the trek through the forest to reach the Tra Ang Cave entrance. It is where we will prepare to swim into the furthest reaches of the cave.

What Will You Get When Joining This Trekking Tour?

After arriving at the headquarters in Phong Nha, our tour guide will introduce the itinerary and safety and environmental protection regulations.

After that, our Phong Nha private car driver will take you to the jungle trekking place to explore Elephant Cave. Once we reach the trailhead, you will plunge into the jungle and climb uphill into Elephant Cave.

Upon completing 20 minutes of the most difficult jungle trek, you will be rewarded with the magnificent sight of the Elephant Cave, which is 60 meters high and 300 meters long. You will be guided to explore the cave safely. Additionally, our excellent local guide also provides interesting information about the formation and historical stories of Elephant Cave.

After exploring Elephant Cave, we will hike through the trail, cross rivers, and balance across fallen trees in the jungle. Hence, we will hike deep into Ma Da Valley until we reach Ma Da Lake. Here, we will have the fabulous chance to do some cliff jumping down the lake for swimming and enjoy a delicious jungle BBQ prepared by our porters. Then, you will freely soak and enjoy the cool feeling of the underground stream rising from the ground under Ma Da Lake.

After lunch, we continued on the jungle trek. A few kilometers down the trail and a couple of river crossings later, we will come upon a large bend in the river and a gathering spot for the swim into Tra Ang Cave. After a short scramble up limestone rocks, we will reach the cool waters at the Tra Ang Cave entrance. Next, start the 600m swim into the furthest depths of the cave.

Our guides will lead you to the road once the Tra Ang Cave swim is finished. Here, our driver will wait for you with a cold beer or soda and then transfer you back to the headquarters.

ELEPHANT CAVE – MA DA VALLEY JUNGLE TREK ITINERARY

8:00 am: Our driver and local guide will pick you up by car from your homestay or hotel in Phong Nha and transfer you to the headquarters.

8:30 am: The tour guide will disseminate the treking schedule, rules, and safety and environmental protection regulations in Phong Nha National Park.

9:30 am: Depart for Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park by private car.

10.00 am: After arriving at the trekking starting point, we get down the car to start the Elephant Cave exploration.

10:00 – 11:00 am: We explore Elephant Cave and trek to the Ma Da Valley through the forest.

12:00: Upon reaching Ma Da lake, we relax and swim into the lake.

12:45: We enjoy BBQ lunch by the Ma Da lake.

2:00 pm: After lunch, we trek to Tra Ang cave.

3:00 – 3:45 pm: Arrive at Tra Ang cave and start swimming 600m deep inside to explore the mysterious Tra Ang cave.

4:30 pm: After finishing Tra Ang cave exploration, we trek back on Ho Chi Minh road.

5:00 pm: Arrive at Ho Chi Minh road and enjoy a cold drink.

Travel Guides

Things you should bring:

• First and foremost, you should bring a set of long clothes to protect against poison ivy and insects.
• Secondly, swimwear, long socks, mall backpack, waterproof bag (optional) 
• Shoes (optional) – you should not use waterproof shoes because it will take a long time to dry.
